The ghost of a filament
Burns brighter than a lighthouse
On the shores of her memory’s dissonance
The whitest twining lightning
In the night-time, like a revenant
Reminds her, for a moment, of a morning
And the Chandelier Cafe
Full of pancakes and oranges
And the handsome, smiling waiter
Looked her straight in the eyes and asked,
“Is there anything more that I can do?”
Like the faucet on a fountain
Dries up without a wellspring,
The images fall from her thirsting eyes
So this modern Lady Greely,
Questing for a cabaret,
Sets off through an unrepentant blizzard
And the Chandelier Cafe
Full of red wine and spaghetti
And the beautiful, blond waitress
Will look her straight in the eyes and ask,
“Is there anything more that I can do?”
Scent of black, bitter coffee
Curls like a smoky sentinel
Beneath the glow of incandescent lights
Tables gouged and pockmarked
With the shades of forks and knives
She feels a phantom presence at her side
And the Chandelier Cafe
Full of shadows and their whispers
And the warm-hearted young lady
Lays a hand upon her hand and asks,
“Is there anything more that I can do?”
